Top 4 Fun Baby Shower Alternatives

Your baby bump is growing! People are asking you the same questions over and over again! “When are you due?” “Is it a boy or a girl?” And maybe “Are you going to have a baby shower?”

Baby showers can be a ton of fun for you, your friends, and your family! But maybe you’re not that outgoing, and the thought of having a big party makes your stress meter shoot through the roof.

Maybe you’d rather just have a quiet night with some friends.

Check out these baby shower outing ideas for low stress, fun ideas for baby shower or baby sprinkle alternatives!

1. Go for a Picnic

If you’re able to have a baby shower in a warmer month, have a picnic with some of your friends and family!

This is a GREAT option if you’re inviting anyone with kids – they can run around, play, and wear themselves out for nap time while the grownups hang out.

Do it potluck style!

Make a facebook group and ask everyone to write what they’re going to bring! That way you don’t end up with five people bringing cookies and no one has sandwiches or anything savory.

If it’s for a girl, everyone could bring pink-colored items! Pink napkins, pink paper plates, pink paper cups, cupcakes with pink icing, you name it!

For a boy, make it blue themed! Think of some questions you have about parenting and write them down on strips of paper!

Put them in a bowl, and have people take turns drawing the questions and answering. It’s a great way to get some wonderful advice. Even friends and family without kids will have fun giving you their two cents.

Get ready for some laughs and fun conversations!

Make reservations early so you have a private table, and make sure you let everyone know well in advance!

Even though you’re not having a traditional baby shower, people will still need time to go shopping for you and the new baby some presents.

4. Have dinner with your partner

Maybe you’re in a new town, or maybe you and your partner are the shy type who would rather not have a lot of people over!

That’s absolutely fine! After all, this new parent life is going to be 95% you guys.

Eat at home and cook together. Maybe you cook the dessert while he prepares the main dish, or vice versa.

No pressure on either of you! It doesn’t have to be fancy (or even super crazy delicious), but the act of cooking together can be a very intimate and fun activity for any couple.

Put the phones away, turn off the tv, light a couple of candles, and talk about the adventure you two are about to embark on.

Use the time to really open up and talk about concerns and worries you have for the future. Talk about how you were raised as a kid. What do you want to do the same? What do you want to do differently?

Write a list of things you’d like to do with your kid!

  • Countries you want them to visit
  • Movies from your childhood you want them to watch
  • Music you want to play on road trips
  • Fun road trip games
  • Video games you want to play with your kids
  • Who you want to introduce them to during the first year
  • What kind of foods you want them to try
  • Books you want to read to them
  • Books you want them to read themselves when they’re old enough

Make a long list and have fun!

Do they need to experience David Bowie singing and dancing in Labyrinth ASAP?

Have you bought The Giving Tree or Where the Wild Things Are yet?

Does your mom still have your collection of Goose Bumps for when your kid is old enough for scary stories?

Do you need to buy that Backstreet Boys anthology for those long trips to Grandma’s house?

In the end, it’s all about the new parents. As long as you’re having fun, that’s the most important thing!

Don’t feel like you have to keep your baby shower traditional.
